The RIT Drill With A Spiritual Lesson

Yesterday I was involved in Rapid Intervention Team training to learn how to rescue downed firefighters. The first part of the training was designed to help a firefighter help himself if something catastrophic happened.  I was not told what would happen in the drill. I was only told that I was to be in full gear and breathing from my Self Contained Breathing Appartus. The mask of the SCBA was clouded to simulate a smoke filled environment. I was led to a hose line and told to follow the hose line. A few feet in the door a chain link fence was throne on top of me and several large men fell on top of the fence causing me to be flattened completely to the floor. This simulated a sudden and catastrophic roof collapse. My next step was to manuever my body until I could reach my radio and call, ” Mayday, Mayday, Mayday….firefighter Easler down…….There has been a roof collapse approximately 20 feet in the door.

I have to say although I knew this was not real it was absolutely rattling to be blinded through the scenario not knowing what was on top of me. The incident commander came back over the radio and  said ” Remain calm, activate your PASS device ( alarm that sounds if you are down), The RIT team has been notified, attempt to self extricate.”   

As I struggled to activate my pass device the men on top of me put even more pressure on me causing me to be completely crushed until I could not move. As I fought,  I realized a simple but calming truth. My PASS device would activate automatically if I would just remain still for 30 seconds. As long as I moved my PASS device would not activate, but when I became still it would activate automatically. This saved my energy and air as I struggled to breath under the crushing load.

After the scenario was over, I saw the spiritual illustration in this exercise. 4000 years ago the Israelites found themselves trapped having no options left with mountains on each side, the Egyptian army at their back, and the Red Sea in front of them. They called out to God and God responded with the calming words, ” Be still and see the salvation of God.”( Exodus 14: 13)

Salvation comes when we see our weakness and inabillity and do 2 things; call out to God, and trust his power. I pray that we can stop struggling in our own power and see the power of God made perfect in our weakness.  Have you found yourself under a crushing burden? You have tried all you know to try to extricate yourself but you need a Savior. Call out to him and trust his power. He is ready to save.

A Layman’s Guide to Politics

This is my last political blog for the season. I though t I would leave you with some closing remarks before I moved on to a different subject.

 

A Layman’s Guide to Politics: How to Negotiate your way through the political maze of words.

 

1.    When something is talked about like it is the most important thing in the world (example: The economy) it is only because the “focus groups” have told them that it is important. They were talking about Iraq 6 months ago. 

 

2.    When you hear a politician say, “ I have always said…”(Obama’s answers to almost anything) they are using a piece of tumbleweed to cover their tracks through the desert. 

 

3.    When politicians say, “ I think voters are a little too sophisticated for that”, they are really saying, “ my supporters have taken the Kool-Aid and will believe everything I say.” 

 

 

4.    When someone is called a “maverick” it is only because they are trying to distance themselves from an establishment that they are still attached to, like it or not.

 

5.    If you vote based on convention speeches you might as well elect a robot and let the speech writers plug in the information.

 

 

6.    If you want to know who will win the next election listen to the old men at Hardees not the old men on the cable news. If a “yellow dog” democrat says, “ I don’t have anyone to vote for” then Obama is in trouble.

 

7.    Government is not capable of fixing your problems. They will use the old tactic of “lets don’t and say we did.” Be assured the government will not get you out of this mess but they will sure take the credit.

 

8.    There is only one strategy for the economy, “trickle down” If businesses are successful the benefits trickle down. If they are taxed the price increases “trickle down.” That is what it means to live in Capitalism.

 

 

9.    One day Jesus will return to judge this earth. Even if His coming occurs on November 4, He will not ask for a vote to be taken.

Morning Joe: “MSNBC is fair and balanced” Wow! And I can bench press 750 pounds!

Because the only people jumping on the liberal bandwagon against Palin are liberals, Joe Scarborough this morning changed tone and declared MSNBC fair and balanced ( Joe you know better!). If the qualifications of Palin are laughable to liberals that statement is laughable to everyone else.  I will give them credit that they are attempting to move the discussion more to her “qualifications” ( Obama talking points and shift of strategy) and the rumor (excuse me I meant report) by the Washington Post that she was interviewed only once by the VP committee. Still I wonder where the feminist are now? First, they left Hillary( not that I am a supporter) blowing in the wind and now they are standing back with their arms folded watching this without comment. It is proof that their agenda is weak and shallow at its base.

   I agree with a contributor from FOX when she said that It is so  ”intellectually foreign to the liberal mind that there could be a conservative woman in the White House” that they are rabidly opposed to the thought for fear that people will see that all women aren’t progressive pro choice liberals( no quotes because I tagged my own comment at the end).

Here’s one for you Joe, ” Well you know I am not really 20 pounds overweight, I am jolly”

No matter how you slice it, you are what you are. Get real, and remember your roots!

MSNBC Gives Me One More Reason To Support Gov. Palin

MSNBC’s floating morality again shines forth with their coverage of  the Gov. of Alaska. Their paid correspondents chafe at any critical comments made about gays, lesbians, adulterers, politicians who support the killing of babies even after they are born alive, or any other clear immoral behavior promoted by modern society. However, when it was announced that Gov. Palin had a Down’s Syndrome child, a correspondent said, “ As you know she has 5 children and is pro-life. They said this as if her decision to have her last child was a little on the uneducated side.

 

Now they are showing pictures of her 17 year old daughter pregnant as if this is a great scandal in their eyes. She is pregnant, and obviously made a sinful mistake by having sex outside of marriage. However, I do not see MSNBC talking much about that sin on a daily basis unless it is politically expedient. No one mentioned Bill Clinton’s vast record of immorality when he spoke to the Dem. Convention. No one would dare call out the immorality of a movie star that is pregnant outside of wedlock. MSNBC along with most if not all news channels have a warped since of morality and truth because they believe in their postmodern, biblically Ignorant minds that they are a little too educated for those old things called, right and wrong, sin and righteousness, and truth and error. They stick to warm fuzzy words like “values.” And if they really want to impress you they will call them, “ family values.” But whose family and whose values?

 

Thanks for reminding us again what hypocrites look like.
